Office politics- One of the forms of Human behavior

Hey All,
I am actually sitting and wondering about office politics today. Which form of human behavior is it? what is the source for this politics thats creeps in any and every office that probably exists- insecurity, superiority/inferiority complex, competetion, money, pressure or simply the idea of being in the good books of the boss that leads to such behavior? More so, this would be common in any part of the world we go, irrespective of the cast, creed, culture, color or country. Now, how does this happen? there is no rule book, for it is something which is never very openly talked about and niether have I come across any forums on which it is discussed at a stretch. I am writing this not because i am a victim here, but because i see it happening all around me and i sure have been a part of it. Its part and parcel of a person's work life!!
The question here is, how and from where does this part of human behavior come into existence, where people are jealous to see their own peers and collegues happy or doin well? Why does a human heart and brain send across vibes of negativity/sadness to see some other being happy? Was this inbuilt in us or did we develop it within us gradually? I believe this negative form of behavior is very similar and is just an embryonic feelings like enemity which lead to terrorism and wars. If we look into it deeply, its the same feeling just on a more broader level.
Coming back to the point of office politics, are we trying to look into the solutions for it, or have we learnt to live with it?

As per me, if you have to define politics in the negative sense- If one person tries to play with you and your emotions and manages to fool u, its a game and when more than one person joins the game, its politics.
